SELF DISCOVERY: MY SUCCESS STORY.

We live in a society where every teenager wants to wear the latest designer clothes and use the latest iPhone at all expense. Some don’t mind doing illegal things just to get them. Internet fraud is no longer a strange thing infact it’s a norms. Even yahoo guys no longer hide the fact that they are yahoo guys.

We live in a society where most teenagers live a social media life. Every teenager wants to become an influencer because they feel that’s the only way you can be successful as a teenager. Even the so called influencers who are supposed to influence other teenagers positively and impact lives don’t seem to care about what happens to other teenagers. It’s just a big circle. Influencers are friends with influencers. If you can’t get to their level, you’re no body. I won’t call it pride, let’s just say it’s class.

There’s a particular time I wanted to do something different on my blog. Since most teenagers are looking up to these influencers and they’re hoping to learn one or two things from them, I decided to message some of them on Instagram so I can have a kinda interview with them. Fortunately for me, a popular influencer, everyone knows, ( I won’t mention her name) replied my message and I explained everything to her. This is how the conversation went.

“Hello dear. I’m Gloria, a teen blogger. I’ll like to interview you. Please I want you to share your story with me. Most teenagers are hoping to become an influencer like you. I hope your story will be able to inspire them”

She replied

“ I don’t understand “

My reply: “ I want to ask you some questions about you, your family background, how you became an influencer, your advice to other teenagers who are hoping to be like you “

Her reply :“ what does my family has to do with this? “

I was like who the hell do you think you are. What I meant by your family background is .... maybe you’re born into the family of 5 or 3 and you’re the last born... something like that ( I didn’t type that tho)

My reply : “ I’m sorry. Never mind. Thanks for your time.”

I’ve seen different scenarios like that.

You might think once you become a big influencer or a yahoo boy, all your problem will vanish. Of course you’ll make enough money but money cannot buy happiness. Don’t let other people success be a yardstick for your success. Success is not determined by the materialistic things you have but success is being happy with what you’ve. Success is impacting lives positively. Success is putting smiles on people’s faces.

There are thousand and one opportunities for you aside from brand influencing and doing illegal stuffs. All you need to do is think outside the box, discover yourself, discover your talent and work on it. I’ve read stories of teenagers who are successful without influencing for any brand or doing illegal stuffs. I’m not condemning them but it’s high time we change our mindset. Some are artists, some are dancers, some are writers, some are entrepreneurs, some are footballers, some are singers. All you have to do is to discover yourself. For instance, I love writing. I hope someday I’ll be able to impact lives through my writings. I know that won’t give me the fame and money I want but I hope someday someone will be able to work up to me and say

“ Hey Gloria, your writings really inspired me and changed the way I see things. I’ve been blessed through your writings.”

That will give me happiness and a sense of fulfillment. That’s true happiness.

Sometimes, happiness is not about acquiring luxuries and making yourself happy but happiness is putting making others happy.

Discover yourself and remember, the sky is just your starting point.
